NYC can be a dangerous place for pedestrians

Most people in New York City step out of their homes and businesses assuming that they will have an uneventful walk to their next destination. However, new numbers from the Tri-State Transportation Campaign show that walking on New York City streets can be quite dangerous.

Sandhogs Found To Be Top Amoung Dangerous Jobs

The reason New York City moves as well as it does on a day to day basis is due in large part to the sacrifices made by a small group men known in Union Circles as "SandHogs". Every tunnel in New York, including the New York Subway system, Metro North, the Long Island Railroad, Path trains and of course the Lincoln, Holland and Battery Park Tunnels were all created by these brave men.

Janitorial Worker in Local 32BJ Union gets 1.5 Million Dollar Settlement

Another client of Morgan Levine, a janitorial worker in Local 32BJ union,  gets 1.5 million dollars in a settlement.  After being struck by a forklift while walking on the sidewalk, this union member injured her neck and lower back.  The attorneys at Morgan Levine filed a lawsuit against the company who employed the forklift driver and the owner of the store where the items were being delivered.  After the defendants refused to offer any compensation to our client, her case was litigated in Court. 

Young Teenager Struck by Van on Park Avenue in New York

A 13 year old boy was critically injured when he was struck by a van on Park Avenue in New York.  The driver of the van claimed the boy walked out into the street from between two parked cars.  The driver also said the boy was crossing the street against the light.

Many People Suffer Injuries in Slip and Fall Accidents After a Snow Storm

Many people suffer injuries to their arms, legs and faces from slipping on snow or ice after a snowstorm. The last snowstorm left more than three feet of snow in some parts of the northeast. More than a foot of snow fell in New York City. The laws require property owners to clear their sidewalks of snow and ice within a reasonable time after the storm passes.

NYC crane inspector convicted of falsifying records gets probation

In March 2008, a New York City crane accident left seven people dead. It was determined that the inspection of the crane, along with several others, was falsified by a crane inspector.

Pedestrian Crossing Street in Midtown Killed by Dump Truck Which Left the Scene

A pedestrian crossing the street in midtown was struck and killed by dump truck yesterday. The drivers of the dump truck ran over the 69 year old woman and fled the scene of the accident. He was later arrested. The victim, Shu Ying Lui, was pronounced dead at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital.

Multiple people hurt in car accident involving a New York City bus and two cars

During this morning's early commute, multiple people were hurt in car accident involving a New York City bus and two cars. The accident happened in the Harlem section of Mahnattan on Frederick Douglas Boulevard and West 135th Street just before 7 a.m. Most of the injured people were passengers on the bus, on their way to work. Several people were taken to local emergency rooms due to their injuries.

Negligent driving often has tragic results

People in New York City and others living elsewhere should use caution whenever they are driving. In addition to remaining attentive at all times, drivers need to be sure they are driving the speed limit. As always, people need to avoid drugs and alcohol before they get behind the wheel.

Multiple Deaths in Bus Crash in California

It has been reported that the death toll in a Southern California tour bus crash is expected to rise Monday as authorities try to get to bodies still inside the bus. The bus had rearended a car as it traveled on the highway. This accident is another reminder of how dangerous a bus accident can be. Over the last several years, hundreds of people have been killed while riding in buses in the New York area. The investigation of most accidents reveal driver fatigue and excessive speed as causes of these fatal accidents.

32BJ Union Member Receives 2.9 Million Settlement

Another janitorial worker represented by Morgan Levine receives award in an accident where an air conditioning vent fell while he sat below in the lunch room during a lunch break. This 32BJ union member suffered a head injury when the vent, which was not properly secured by the owner of the building, fell on top of his head. The client was taken to the hospital where he was on the verge of being released after just a few hours before the doctors finally discovered how serious the injury was.
