Construction Site Accidents and Workers' Injuries Drastically Increase

Jobsite accidents in New York City jumped 31 percent from 2011 to 2012, while injuries up 46% in same period.  During this time, inspections of worksites decreased 40 percent between 2009 and 2012.

Under the Labor Laws in the State of New York, construction workers are supposed to be protected from many of the common jobsite accidents which occur everyday.  Owners of property where the construction is being performed are liable for injuries to workers.

General contractors are also held responsible for the injuries to workers at construction sites in New York City.  Many of the injuries we see at Morgan Levine happen after a worker is not given the proper safety equipment at a job site.  Our clients are injured when they fall from ladders or scaffolds or other makeshift ways to do their dangerous jobs.

Inspectors from the Department of Buildings often do not properly inspect construction sites.  They pay little attention to unsafe worksites, and often neglect to train or supervise workers.  There have been reports of inspectors deliberately concealing accidents.

Many of the cases our attorneys have recently litigated involve union members being injured on construction sites.  Some workers are severely injured when the roof which they are working on collapses.  Other workers are seriously injured when they fall through open holes in floors.  Some temporary flooring collapse, causing the construction worker to fall many feet down.  We see many foot and knee injuries as well as lower back and neck injuries.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a construction site fall, contact Duane Morgan today.
