$1 million settlement awarded in construction worker's death

An insurance company has awarded the parents of a New York man who died in an accident involving a crane a tax-free sum of $1 million. The contractor, Yonkers Contracting, was fined $68,000 and cited for 10 violations because of the incident. The crane crushed the 30-year old worker when he was part of a crew working on a Metropolitan Transit Authority construction project in Manhattan back in April 2012.

Two New York State Police officers injured in car accident

Two New York State Police officers were injured after they were involved in a two-vehicle accident during the early morning hours on Aug. 11, 2013. According to the report, the car accident occurred when a 22-year-old driver, who was operating a 2009 Honda, failed to stop at a stop sign before entering an intersection. The vehicle collided with a State Police patrol car.

New York workers' injury numbers below average

A study based on U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers showed that workplace injuries and illnesses vary widely by state. Injuries that could have resulted in workers' compensation claims were lowest in New York and the District of Columbia, but highest in Maine, according to the Allsup Study of Workplace Injuries. New York fell in the middle of the pack, near the average rate for the country as a whole.

Woman dies in chain-reaction pileup

A five-car accident on the Tappan Zee Bridge has left one woman dead and several injured. A driver of a white SUV was going northbound in a southbound lane when he hit a Nissan head-on. The impact caused the Nissan to roll over several times, killing its passenger and injuring the driver. The other cars became involved when a third car hit the Nissan, and two other vehicles joined the pileup.

We have filed a lawsuit against the City of New York and other parties in connection with the pedestrian killing of Lillian Cruz this past March.  Lillian was crossing the intersection of Hamilton Avenue and Court Street in Brooklyn when she was struck by a dump truck.
