No, it's not a slip and fall in a wet shower, but Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus , commonly known as MRSA. It is a staph infection that is usually spread by physical contact or touching items utilized by an infected person.

Cyclist Killed In The Bronx This Morning

A cyclist was killed in the Claremont section of the Bronx early this morning. A 36 year-old man was biking west on St. Paul's Place at around 6:38 a.m. when he was struck by the driver of a vehicle traveling north on 3rd Avenue. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver remained at the intersection.

Pedestrian Shiela Rivera Killed in Car Accident

Last night, 50-year-old Shiela Rivera was struck by the driver of a 1998 Honda CRV as she crossed Pennsylvania Avenue at the intersection of Glenmore Street. Rivera, who lived a little more than 7 blocks away, was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital. The driver of the vehicle who struck Rivera remained on the scene. An NYPD spokeswoman said that no charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.

Family of deceased teen shows forgiveness

New York police investigated a fatal accident that took place outside of a church carnival in Yonkers. When a Jeep suddenly sped out of a parking lot, the vehicle collided with two parked cars, three occupied cars and four pedestrians. The accident killed a teenage girl and critically injured her sister. Two other teens who were involved in the car accident received minor injuries.

Missing patient found dead in hospital stairwell

New York residents may be interested in this story about a woman who went missing from a San Francisco hospital. Although her condition had been improving, she disappeared from her hospital room for mysterious reasons. After friends and family searched the city for weeks, the missing 57-year-old woman was eventually found deceased in a hospital stairwell. It is not clear yet whether the family is planning to file a premises liability lawsuit.

Eastchester DPW worker Nicholas Farella crushed by garbage truck, dies

Nicholas Farella, a town public works employee, died from injuries suffered in a tragic accident last week.  He was working on the back of a sanitation truck on Water Street when the vehicle backed up about 2:54 p.m., striking a utility pole and crushing him.

A 15 year-old girl died and a 12 year-old girl is in critical condition after being hit by an out-of-control vehicle during a church street fair at the Roman Catholic Church St. Paul the Apostle in Yonkers Friday night.

Police Brutality: Cyclist Detained By Cops For Running Red Light Ends Up With Nerve Damage

Jorge Crespo, a Bronx cyclist, was a victim of another case of police brutality when the officers effecting his arrest caused severe and permanent nerve damage with hand cuffs.  The amount of force used on Mr. Crespo was clearly extremely excessive and apparently totally unnecessary.

Pamela Johnson has hired New York City attorney Vivian Sobers to represent her legal interests in a lawsuit brought against the funeral home. Vivan Sobers is also representing Ms. Johnson's daughter in the same action. 

Six Flags denies liability after woman falls to her death

New York readers may remember a story about a woman falling to her death on a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Texas earlier this year. The family has brought a lawsuit against Six Flags due to the incident. However, the theme park recently denied any liability for her death.

Mom, Young Daughters Hit by Car on Long Island

A mother and her two young daughters were hit by a car while crossing the street in Freeport Wednesday night. Police say a Nissan Maxima was approaching the intersection of Lena Avenue and North Main in Freeport when it struck the three victims. Police say the driver wasn't able to stop in time.

New York City firefighter killed in crash with apparent drunk driver

The 57-year-old victim, identified as John Monteverde of Whitestone, Queens, was apparently struck while the car was attempting to make a turn, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash happened in the area of North Avenue and Vivian Terrace in Union Township around 5:15 a.m. The driver of vehicle was arrested and charged with DWI.

57-year-old man struck, killed by tow truck on Southern Boulevard, East 181st Street

Police say Jose Torres was hit at Southern Boulevard and East 181st Street just before noon.  Neighbors say that tow trucks were racing down the block prior to the accident and may have run a red light.  The 57-year-old man is dead after being struck by a tow truck while trying to cross the street. 

1 dead, dozens injured in Pennsylvania accident with bus from New York

A Greyhound bus accident along Interstate 80 in central Pennsylvania early Wednesday killed one person and injured more than 40, officials said.  The incident happened in Union County south of Williamsport around 1:30 a.m. and five hospitals reported receiving a total of more than 40 patients from the accident. At least four of them were listed in critical condition this morning.

Another Crane Accident Leaves 13K-Ton Block Dangling Over 57th Street

Officials shut down part of West 57th Street temporarily after a crane stalled Monday at the same luxury tower where a crane boom snapped last year.  The crane company, New York Crane, of Maspeth, is owned and operated by James Lomma, who was acquitted last year on charges that he was responsible for a 2008 crane collapse on the East Side that killed two people

Driver pleads guilty to a New York DUI

In 2012, a student from Siena College allegedly caused an accident that killed two high school students and injured two others. On Sept. 27, that student pleaded guilty to 52 felonies and 6 misdemeanors and may be sentenced to a prison term of five to 15 years. It has been reported that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana at the time of the car accident.

Off-Duty NYPD Drunk Officer Kills Pedestrian William Hemphill In Staten Island

An off-duty NYPD cop, Joseph McClean, who had been drinking has been arrested after he struck and killed a 51-year-old man, William Hemphill, in Staten Island earlier today.  The crash occurred on Richmond Terrace near Simonson Avenue in Mariners Harbor at 6:18 a.m.

East Village stairwell collapse sends man falling two stories

Fire department retrieved people stranded in a seven-story 2nd Avenue building after the stairwell collapsed this past weekend. A man was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical but stable condition.  Over 30 college-aged students had gathered on the roof of 159 2nd Avenue at E. 9 St. in the lower East Side on Saturday night for a party.
