Group lobbies to amend scaffolding law

A group of contractors and property owners in New York have begun an lobbying campaign to amend the state's Scaffolding Law. The law, which was first enacted in 1885, holds construction companies accountable for ensuring the safety of employees who work on above-ground construction and is intended to prevent construction injuries. Construction companies are financially liable for injuries that occur due to lack of proper safety precautions on above-ground building projects, and injured workers can sometimes receive large payouts.

8 Year-Old, Noshat Nahian, Killed By Unlicensed Tractor Trailer Driver, Mauricio Osorio-Palominos, on Northern Boulevard Near Queens School

An 8 year-old boy was fatally run over by a tractor trailer truck driver on Northern Boulevard in Queens shortly before 8 a.m. Friday. The truck driver, Mauricio Osorio-Palominos, 51, was turning left onto Northern Boulevard from 61st Street when he struck the boy, who has been identified as Noshat Nahian. Nahian was crossing the six lane boulevard with his 11 year-old sister who was not injured.

Honda SUVs recalled in the U.S.

New York residents driving 2014 Hondas should be aware of a new recall. Although no injuries have been reported related to the problem with the Acura MDX, the potential for car accidents exists. More than 19,000 of the 2014 luxury sport utility vehicles are included in the recall.

10 Hurt After NJ Transit Bus Hits Cab, Crashes Into Building on Washington and Market Streets in Newark

Ten people were taken to the hospital after a NJ Transit bus collided with a taxi and crashed through the front of a building in Newark early Thursday morning, knocking down street signs and scattering debris on the sidewalk.

New York car accident injures 35 people

A massive pileup of cars on the Bronx River Parkway injured 35 people on the evening of Dec. 8. The icy rain and snow are to blame for dangerous driving conditions and are likely the cause of the massive vehicle pileup on the parkway. The Westchester County Police Department said that most of the drivers involved were traveling at low speeds, but a slight downhill grade could have contributed to the crashes.

Marylou Pinto Killed and Patricia Vallary injured in Two-Car Crash on North Country Road in Mount Sinai, Long Island

Suffolk County Police are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a 78 year-old Mount Sinai woman on Sunday.

Marylou Pinto, 78, was driving a 2007 Kia eastbound on North Country Road when her vehicle apparently crossed over into the opposite lane of travel, near Shore Road in Mount Sinai, at approximately 4 p.m.  The Kia collided with a westbound 1997 Lexus being driven by Patricia Vallary, 68, also of Mt Sinai.

Pinto was transported by Port Jefferson Fire Department Rescue to Mather Hospital where she was pronounced dead.  Vallary was transported by Miller Place Fire Department Rescue to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was treated for her accident related injuries.

Glenn Dolan of Morgan Levine Dolan obtained a 1.2 million-dollar verdict for the wife a Brooklyn building superintendent who sustained head, neck and back injuries when a portion of her bathroom ceiling collapsed.  Her husband was terminated from his job and the Housing Court had issued an Order evicting the couple from their apartment.

A Bronx mother has died after being struck by a teenage driver right before Thanksgiving.

Metro-North Train Derails at Spuyten Duyvil Station in the Bronx, Killing 4

Metro-North said the 5:54 a.m. train from Poughkeepsie, which was due in to Grand Central Terminal at 7:43 a.m., derailed at about 7:20 a.m.  The Metro-North train derailed Sunday morning at Spuyten Duyvil station in the Bronx, the New York Fire Department said.
