Fatal accident in New York involves alleged drunk driver

Many New York residents would likely agree that when a driver flees the scene of an accident, that driver is tacitly admitting guilt. Drivers are legally obligated to remain on the scene after an accident occurs. Failing to do so is punishable by the law. Victims of hit-and-run accidents are often understandably outraged. Sometimes, it may take some time for law enforcement officials to locate the hit-and-run driver. Once found, however, the guilty party may be brought to justice, and victims and their families may be able to pursue compensation from the negligent driver.

Following a recent hit-and-run accident in New York, two victims were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries. According to reports, a little before 2 a.m., an SUV struck a 32-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man in East New York. Police said the driver of the SUV leapt out of the vehicle and fled on foot from the scene.

A neighbor claiming to have seen the accident said that she saw the SUV driving around the traffic circle. She walked away from the window and then heard a loud noise, followed by the sound of a girl screaming to move the car. When she looked back out the window, she saw one of the victims pinned to the wall.

Both victims of the hit-and-run accident suffered injuries. The male victim who was pinned to the wall by the SUV was said to be in critical condition. He suffered serious leg injuries. The woman suffered injuries that were considered minor.

Hit-and-run car accidents can be especially frustrating and traumatic for victims and their families. However, by making use of investigative reports and other such evidence, it is often possible to take legal action against the negligent driver and obtain compensation that can help with the costs associated with the accident.
