Naval Cadet, AP Staffer Among Dead In Amtrak Train Crash

A U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen from Queens and an Associated Press staffer were among the seven dead in the Philadelphia Amtrak train derailment that also left 200 people injured, according to various media sources.

Midshipmen Justin Zemser, 20, was among those killed in the ill-fated Amtrak crash, his mother, Susan, and the Naval Academy confirmed. He was heading to his home on Rockaway Beach.

Jim Gaines, 48, was also among those killed in the train accident, according to reports. Gaines was an Associated Press video software architect and a father of two. He had attended meetings in Washington and was returning home to Plainsboro, N.J. His death was confirmed by his wife, Jacqueline.

Around midday Wednesday, officials have still not accounted for all the passengers in the train. Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter said that officials are still trying to match the Amtrak manifest and those sent to hospitals around the area.

One of those unaccounted for was Rachel Jacobs, chief executive officer of ApprenNet, an education technology company. The company posted a message on Twitter: "We are still looking for Rachel & hope she will be with her family soon."

The attorneys at Morgan Levine Dolan have represented many people injured in mass transit accidents.  During the early stages of the investigation, it is imperative to get private attorneys involved in the process.  Too many times, the mass transit carrier performs the investigation and many pieces of evidence are either tampered with or ignored.

We have recovered millions of dollars for our injured clients.  If a loved one has been injured or killed in a train accident, contact Jared Levine of Morgan Levine Dolan at 212-785-5115 today.
