Woman Killed By Tour Bus In Manhattan

A European tourist was hit and killed by a bus in Manhattan on Wednesday, according to reports.

Authorities said that the charter bus, run by the United Coach Line operator, was parked outside of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine on Amsterdam Avenue between West 112th Street and West 113th Street. The bus moved forward and hit the woman, who was crossing Amsterdam Avenue mid-block with her sister.

Police identified the victim as Wanda Canestri, 68, who is Italian but lives in Spain. Canestri was found pinned under the bus and pronounced dead at the scene, according to reports.

Her sister, who witnessed the incident, was taken to a hospital for evaluation, officials said. Witnesses said she was inconsolable.

The bus driver stayed at the scene. No arrests were made or summonses issued. The police were still investigating the death.

United Coach Line said it was investigating, and gave no further comment.

For grieving families, it's important that a full investigation be conducted. For that, a wise first step is to discuss the matter with a legal professional experienced in bus accidents.
