Victims Fatally Struck By LIRR Train Accident Identified

The man and woman who were killed by a Long Island Railroad (LIRR) train in Queens last week were identified by the police. Leanna Belcher and Booker Favors, both 29 years old from Queens, were fatally struck by the train near Hollis station at 2:45 a.m. last Thursday, police said.

The train engineer hit the emergency brakes in a futile attempt to save them, the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) said. According to the agency, the victims were trespassing on the tracks.

The victims' bodies were found about 200 feet east of the station. A neighborhood resident said that people frequently climb on the tracks from that part of the area.

"It's easy to get to and it's isolated," Harry Raj, 53, an auto-body shop worker who lives next to the railroad line, told the New York Post. "People are always up there all hours of the night."

For grieving families, it's important that a full investigation be conducted. For that, a wise first step is to discuss the matter with a legal professional experienced in train accidents.
