Construction Worker Falls To Death From UES Co-op Building

A construction worker died after falling 13 floors from a scaffolding at the Sherman Towers co-op building on the Upper East Side on Tuesday afternoon, according to reports.

The 30-year-old man, who has not yet been identified, fell from the scaffold on the 14th floor of the building and onto a sidewalk shed. When emergency responders arrived at the scene, witnesses said that the victim was seen bleeding from the head. It was not yet known whether the man was wearing a safety harness when he fell from the scaffolding.

The worker was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Construction injuries rose by 34 percent in fiscal year 2015, and fatalities rose from six to 11, compared to the previous year, city statistics showed.

An investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
