VT Tracks Where Amtrak Train Derailed Has Had Multiple Accidents Before

The train tracks where an Amtrak train derailed as a result of a rockslide in Vermont on Monday has had 54 accidents since 2006, including 14 derailments, according to the New York Times.

According to federal records, the New England Central Railroad has had four accidents that involved debris on tracks since 2006. Since Genesee and Wyoming Railroad bought New England Central Railroad in 2012, it has dealt with six train accidents under its management. The accidents ranged from highway grade-crossing incidents to three deaths in the past three years.

The tracks where the crash happened had also been a part of a $220 million upgrade of New England Central Railroad tracks, which was funded by a $50 million federal recover grant. The upgrade had been completed by early 2013, and the speed limit in the area was increased from 55 mph to 59 mph. However, officials said they did not believe there was any negligence on any one's part.

The Federal Railroad Administration said that one of its crew members was seriously hurt. Four people who were hospitalized were released by Monday evening, Amtrak said.

The attorneys at Morgan Levine Dolan have represented many people injured in mass transit accidents.  During the early stages of the investigation, it is imperative to get private attorneys involved in the process.  Too many times, the mass transit carrier performs the investigation and many pieces of evidence are either tampered with or ignored.

We have recovered millions of dollars for our injured clients.  If a loved one has been injured or killed in a train accident, contact Jared Levine of Morgan Levine Dolan at 212-461-499 today.
