Drunk Driver Kills 1 After Crashing Porsche Into School Bus

A female passenger of a Porsche was killed after the drunk driver slammed into the back of a parked school bus on Friday at 3:30 a.m., officials and witnesses said. Nara An, 24, of South Korea was the girlfriend of the driver and died at the scene.

Kyong Song, 29, of Island Park, was speeding down Sanford Avenue in Flushing, Queens when Song lost control of the car and plowed into the bus outside Thomas Jefferson Elementary School near 155th Street, police said. He had twice the legal blood-alcohol limit during the accident, they said.

In the immediate aftermath of the accident, Song lit a cigarette and got out of the car, but when he saw his mortally wounded girlfriend, he tried to choke himself with a rope in a suicide attempt, witnesses said. The car was completely mangled.

Song was taken to New York Hospital with minor injuries and released. He was charged with a DWI at the hospital. He was arraigned on a vehicular manslaughter charge on Friday night at Queens Criminal Court and was held on a $750,000 bond. He was placed on suicide watch at his lawyers request.

Song said that he had six beers and three shots before he stepped into the car. He later told investigators that An, who he refers to as Alice, pleaded with him to slow down as they sped away from a nearby bar.
