Off-Duty NYPD Cop Arrested After Leaving Car Accident In Queens

NYPD officer Jonathan Morales, 30, of Long Island, was arrested after an investigation found that he had rear-ended another car and walked away from the scene with blood still on his face from the crash, prosecutors said. The incident occurred on 31st Avenue in Astoria at around 4 a.m. on May 10.

Morales was driving an Audi A7 when he rear-ended a black Lincoln MKV parked on 31st Avenue, prosecutors said. A 40-year-old man, who was sitting in the driver's seat of the Lincoln, flew forward and slammed his head into the steering wheel from the collision, prosecutors said. The driver of the Lincoln, whose name has not been revealed, suffered head and back pain.

The next day, Morales filed an insurance claim, a spokesman for the Queens District Attorney said. "He did report it to the insurance company. He didn't report it the police," the spokesman added.

Morales has been charged with a misdemeanor for leaving the scene of an accident.
