Fire Officials Rescue Workers After Inwood Scaffolding Collapse

FDNY crews rescued four construction workers when the scaffolding they were on collapsed at an upper Manhattan work site, officials said.

The workers were on a six-story apartment building at 44 Seaman Avenue in Inwood at 11:45 a.m. when the main cable of the scaffolding snapped, officials said. The men were first saved by their harnesses before fire officials rescued them.

Firefighters were on the scene two minutes after they received the call and split into three teams of two to bring the workers to safety, fire officials said.

The workers were dangling for five to 10 minutes before they were rescued. One worker was rescued with a ladder, two others were pulled through the building's windows and the fourth man was pulled to the roof with a rope.

The four men were taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital. Two were listed in serious condition, officials said. The other two were treated for minor injuries.
