Over 30 Injured After Casino Bus Overturns In Connecticut

More than 30 people were injured after a charter bus coming from Queens and heading to the Mohegan Sun casino overturned on a snow-covered Connecticut highway on Monday afternoon. The Interstate 95 was closed for hours by police, according to reports.

Fifty-five people, including the driver, were aboard the bus when it flipped over just west of New Haven, police said. Around 30 people were able to get out of the bus on their own while several others were seen climbing out of the front and top of the overturned vehicle.

A few injured victims were taken to area hospitals and were treated for injuries of varying severity. A Yale hospital spokesman confirmed that the hospital received eight patients. One person suffered several broken bones and others suffered minor injuries with cuts and bruises, the spokesman said.

"They initially expected worse in the field and told us to prepare for the worst," the hospital spokesman told reporters. "Once they got down to nuts and bolts and triaged everybody, they realized it was not as serious as they thought."

The uninjured passengers were taken to a nearby gymnasium.

The bus was driving amid a powerful snowstorm when it overturned. It had been snowing in Connecticut for several hours with about 2 to 3 inches of snow in some areas.
