Nine People Hurt From FDR Bus Crash

At least nine people were injured from an MTA bus crash on Franklin Delano Roosevelt Drive in Manhattan, officials said. The QM11 bus crashed into a pillar near an overpass on 34th Street at around 4:30 p.m.

"We saw the bus coming down and I guess he didn't see there was a curve, or he was just coming too fast," one witness told NBC New York. "But he grinded onto the curve and he hit the pole and then he stopped."

When passersby tried to check on the bus passengers, the driver could not open the door because of the door's damage. They waited until police and fire officials arrived.

Several passengers were seen coming off the bus, holding their necks and holding ice packs to their heads, according to reports. At least one person was seen being taken off the bus on a stretch and onto an ambulance.

Three people were rushed to Bellevue Hospital, fire officials said. One person was treated for minor injuries and two others were treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries. The other six injured passengers declined further medical attention.

"I've never experienced anything like this -- I've been riding 38 years on the bus, and I've never been in an accident," Bettina Waterman, a passenger on the bus, told reporters.

Aaron Young was another passenger on the bus. He said he felt the drive was going too fast.

The bus driver claims he lost control, according to sources.
