Woman Critically Injured After Taxi Cab Struck Her In Greenwich Village

Meral Arisoy, 32, was seriously injured after she was struck on the sidewalk and pinned to a wall by a taxi cab in Greenwich Village, according to multiple reports. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. at the intersection of East 8th Street and University Place near New York University.

According to reports, the driver made an illegal right turn on University Place, which is a one-way street. The driver then suffered an unspecified medical emergency, sources told the New York Post.

The driver lost control of the car and struck Arisoy as she was walking on the sidewalk. She was partially wedged under the vehicle for several minutes before emergency responders lifted the vehicle off of her, witnesses said.

Arisoy was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition, according to sources.

The unidentified cab driver stayed at the scene. He was questioned by the police before he was transported to the hospital as well.
