A hit-and-run driver was arrested after a fatal car accident in Long Island, police said.

According to police and witnesses, Obule was driving a new BMW sedan when he struck a taxi and pushed it across two lanes of opposing traffic, onto a sidewalk and into a power pole. The incident happened in Franklin Square at around 4:15 a.m.. He was believed to be speeding before the crash.

The victim, a 47-year-old cab driver from Elmont, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The cab driver's name has not been released.

The taxi's passenger, a 20-year-old woman, was transported to a hospital and treated for a fractured left foot.
