Two People Killed In Chain Reaction Car Crash On L.I.

Two people were killed and a child was injured after a chain-reaction crash on the Wantagh State Parkway in Long Island, officials said.

Reina Olivera, 33, was driving her Nissan Murano on the left lane of the highway when she was rear-ended by a Honda CRV around 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to reports.

Olivera got out of the vehicle while holding her 3-year-old daughter and was exchanging insurance information with the Honda's passenger, Nicholas Ramirez, 61 when a second set of vehicles crashed into them.

A Toyota Corolla had slowed down as it passed the crash site, but was then struck from behind by a Honda Accord. The Accord careened into Olivera, her child and Ramirez. The impact caused Ramirez to fly into the opposite lane of travel, where he was struck again by a Jeep Wrangler.

Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene. Olivera was taken to Nassau Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Her child is listed in critical condition. The driver of the Jeep was taken to a hospital and treated for cuts. None of the other drivers or passengers involved were hurt.

For grieving families, it's important that a full investigation be conducted. For that, a wise first step is to discuss the matter with a legal professional experienced in car accidents.
