L.I. Car Crash Kills Four People On Fourth of July

At least four people were killed and a baby survived after a car crash caused by a speeding driver in Long Island, officials said. Gustave Geyer, 25, was driving southbound in his Chevy pickup truck when he turned onto Yaphank Middle Island Road and struck a 2014 Nissan Altima.

Geyer and three of the Altima's occupants were killed from the impact. An 11-month-old baby and a woman identified as the baby's mother survived the crash.

The Altima's driver, a man in his 30s who was the baby's father, died in the accident. The other two victims were a man and woman in their 70s.

The baby's mother was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital where she was treated for life threatening head injuries and burns, police said. The baby was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital and was expected to survive.

The roads were slick from rain the previous evening. However, witnesses told officials that the driver had been "operating in a wild and crazy manner prior to the accident."

For grieving families, it's important that a full investigation be conducted. For that, a wise first step is to discuss the matter with a legal professional experienced in car accidents.
